The Virgin Islands - 2007

Despite 15 hours of travel to get there
and no luggage for another 18 hours,
I was glad to finally get there and get on the boat!
Airline travel is just no fun any more.

Jason and Heather were happy to get there too!

After waiting around for our luggage,
we finally set sail for St. John.

Our captain found us a beautiful calm cove to anchor for the night.
(Actually he was great at finding us beautiful and calm waters to anchor at every night!)

And we finally got to get in the Caribbean waters
for some swimming and snorkling before dinner.

Jason thought it would be a good idea to sleep
in the hammock on deck the first night. . .
until he learned how cool it is at night with the breezes!

We spent the next week sailing or motoring all over the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, making stops along the way for diving and snorkeling, shopping, bar hopping, and sight seeing.

We got to shore on the yacht's dingy.

"The Baths" on Virgin Gorda

Jason believes that visiting any ocean calls for some deep sea fishing.
So we chartered a fishing boat on Virgin Gorda and off we went.
Who can say no to a birthday-boy that loves to fish!
Check out that happy face!

Even with all the things to do and see
there were still times to just relax or take a nap.

Michael Beans, the Happy Aaarr One-Man Pirate Band,
entertained us for an evening at Marina Cay. Our yacht captain Lenny and
first mate/chef Donna joined us for a fun evening.

Jason was elected to represent our boat in the
conch blowing contest (for a bottle of pirate rum).
Ummm... He didn't win.
All in all, it was a great vacation. It sure seemed like
a special birthday week for somebody!

The yacht I chartered, The Opus, is a lovely boat that I can highly recommend. It was comfortable, well maintained, and suited us perfectly. This trimaran has a huge amount of deck space that you just don't find on many other boats. What makes any charter special however is the crew. Lenny and Donna were absolutely first rate. They were accommodating, professional, warm, and welcoming and took wonderful care of us during our trip. Sharing their boat and their love and knowledge of the Islands was what made the trip special. Their rates were more than reasonable and if scuba diving is your thing, Opus is definitely the best value and the best boat in the Virgin Islands. Their website is http://www.yachtopus.com.

If you need a larger boat or are looking for a different destination contact Sherry Yates at Yates Yachts. She's a professional and very knowledgeable yacht broker whose services are quite excellent and she can help you find the right boat to meet your needs.
